OUR HISTORY

In 1866, the first year of freedom from slavery in America, The First Missionary Baptist Church was founded in Metropolis, Illinois. We are thankful that The Lord has blessed and used our church to serve as a means to freedom from the bondage of sin that stands between Humanity and the fullness of Divinity's joy.

From our inception as The "African Baptist Church", under the founding pastorate of Rev. Boyles, to today under Dr. Orlando McReynolds, God's Word has been kept; "I will send you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding." (Jerimiah 3:15)

Led by The Holy Spirit, these pioneers and pastors, along with those who through the years have picked up their cross, and denied themselves, has brought us to where we are today; a church that is Bible Fed and Holy Ghost Led.
